Many of our valued guests have shown curiosity about the origins of Castleview Holiday Lodges, often pondering how we ventured into this business given our backgrounds in education and farming. Today, I’m delighted to share our journey with you.
Reflection and Vision in the Face of Adversity
The pandemic in early 2020 was a period of reflection and reconnection for many, including our family. It prompted us to evaluate our priorities and envision our future direction. With three eager children keen to embark on a family enterprise, we explored numerous ideas yet struggled to pinpoint the perfect venture.
Storm Arwen: A Catalyst for Change
November 2021’s Storm Arwen was a turning point, as it unleashed devastating winds across the UK, leading to widespread destruction and the felling of countless trees. This event, particularly significant for its unusual northerly wind direction, caused unprecedented damage and disruption.
Finding Solace and Inspiration in Nature
In the midst of lockdowns, our family found solace in the great outdoors. Our daily routines included farm work and extensive walks with our dog, activities that provided both physical exercise and mental reprieve. A pivotal moment occurred during one such walk, following Storm Arwen’s aftermath, when we ventured into a seldom-visited part of our farm’s forest. The sight that greeted us was both shocking and awe-inspiring, with a significant portion of the woodland laid bare by the storm.
The Birth of a Dream Amidst the Chaos
Navigating through the aftermath, an unexpected discovery awaited us: a stunning view of Lauderdale and its surrounds, unveiled by the cleared forest. It was at this moment, amidst the chaos and beauty of nature’s force, that the concept of Castleview Holiday Lodges crystallised. The idea of creating a sanctuary where others could also experience this breathtaking view and find a retreat in nature’s lap was born.

This experience, rooted in the aftermath of a storm and the desire to forge a new path for our family, led to the creation of Castleview Holiday Lodges. It symbolises our commitment to offering a tranquil escape and the opportunity to create lasting memories amidst the natural beauty of the Scottish Borders.
